Setting: follow the road in the glen (from the roundabout) for half a mile till you see a parking lot on the left side of the road. Steps are leading down to a lawn the river
Ground: mainly even, some uneven parts

Comments:The campingsites in Fort Williams are quite expensive and very basic, but there is a suitable site for wild camping at the banks of the river (Just follow the road to the Youth Hostel for half a mile, it's on the left side of the road)

Setting:located a few miles from Fort Williams in the Glen Nevis.
SP east of A82 at roundabout. Continue up Glen Nevis for 2m. Site is on right.

Sanitary:clean
Comments:large and overcrowded campingsite, used by hundreds of people who want to climb the highest peak of scotland, very expensive
Sightseeing-Tip:
  • Steall Falls: Impressive waterfalls at the end of Glen Nevis, a footpath starts where the road ends. (Photos)
  • Ben Nevis Highest peak in Scotland, but too many tourists in the summer.
  • Neptuns Staircase: A masterly performance in a technical view. The Caledonian Cannal has to conquer 20m difference in altitude by 8 locks . Busses from F. William. Nice walks along the Caledonian Cannal.

Comment:(1) spacious site, beautyfull dunes, sandy beach with a view to the Isle of Skye

(2) Have been here repeatedly over 12 or more years. Really good. Especially washing/sanitary/etc. Ground is always dry even after torrential continous rain (scots mist ?) due to sand soil under grass. 10 star rating (yes there is such a thing)!

(3) Super site!!!!!!!
Sightseeing-Tip: Badachro Inn (nice Pub with good meals)

Setting:located on left hand side on the A82, 1 mile beyond the Glencoe Visitor Centre
Ground:partly flat, partly uneven, ground is partly soaked with water after heavy rain
Infrastructure:shop, laundry room with token operated washing and drying machines, telephone, cooking shelters (knocked-up), hair dryers
Facilities:clean but some more showers would be nice, Facilities for disabled, dogs are welcome
Comments:My favorite campingsite - tremendous panoramic mountain views. Campfires are allowed (in old fireplaces only)
There are a lot of snails - look in your boots in the mornings

Setting:Follow the Glencoe-Village Road for 2 miles. Site is settled on the banks of River Coe opposite the youth hostel . The NTS-Site is on the other site of the river.
Ground:leveled, lots of shady trees are on the ground
Infrastructure:
Sanitary:Showers & toilets (portacabins). A long way to walk to the toilets from soe quarters of the site.
Comment:Small bonfires are allowed.
Tents only, no caravans.

Ground:hard, mainly leveled, some sloping passages

Sanitary:Showers & toilets , wheelchairs ok.
Comment:An excellent site, but scenically not as spectacular as the NTS or Red Squirrel Site.
Mainly Caravans, small tent area
The best pub in the area is The Clachaig Inn on the old road out of Glencoe towards the Pass of Glencoe, beyond The Red Squirrel site, just before the junction with the A82 main road. (John & Dorothy, 2002)

Sanitary:Showers & toilets , clean. Warm water and the hair drier are free, the buildings are heated.
Comment:Very large site, mainly stationary caravans. It's a long way to walk from the tent area to the reception. Footpath to Inverary (2 1/2 miles)

Comments:Last campsite before the bridge to Skye (5,40 pound in one direction!!!). The location of the site is nice - lots of trees and bushes, but the facilities are lousy and there are lots of midges.

Setting: Inverinate is locatde a few miles east of Kyle of Lochalsh at the banks of Loch Duich near the 'Five Sisters' (Glen Shiel). Morwich is located a little bit out of Inveriate on a byroad. (Turn off shortly before or after the bridge over Loch Duich, the byroad leads back to the mainroad in a semicircle)
Ground: lawn, level
Infrastructure: washing machine, drier, TV, billiard, common room, info-point, small shop, roofed cooking shelters for campers
Sanitary: clean, free showers - super!!!
Comments: quiet and peaceful and well-tended campsite, Ranger-station is in the neighbourhood
Sightseeing-Tip: Eilean Donan Castle (the Highlaender Castle!), tour to the "Falls of Glomach" or the "Five Sisters of Kintail", guided tours by Nationl Trust Rangers

Setting:on the A 861 on Loch Sunart (the A861 is a secludet single track road, no noise) at the Ardnamurchan Peninsula. Beautyful landscape but not as spectacular as in other places.
Ground:soft lawn, partly level, partly slightly wavy
Infrastructure:shop, washing machine, drier, hairdrier, billard, table-tennis, pub, excellent restaurant, dogs are welcome
Sanitary:very clean, the temperature of the water is not adjustable, partly just lukewarm
Comment:excellent site but rather expensive

Strontian

Setting: located at the bordreline between the peninsulas Ardnamurchan and Morven, approximately 19 mils northwest of Fort William. Take the ferry over the Corran Narrows to Ardgour (landing place is north of Fort William on the A82) Follow the signs to Strontian (on the B861), turn right at the police station in Strontian.
Ground:lawn, slightly sloping
Infrastructure: washing machine, drier, vending machine for drinks, microwave-oven, TV-room. Dogs are welcome
Sanitary:only ONE shower, clean, showers and hair drier are free
Comments: beautiful site affectionate run by an widely traveled engineer and his wife, fresh farm-eggs are sold, campfires are allowed, barbecue
Sightseeing-Tip: The peninsula Ardnamurchan is the most western point of the british mainland. Follow the single track road along Loch Sunart to the lighthouse. Beautiful!
