Setting:a few miles from Aberdeen, excellent signposting (follow the A96 to Kintore, turn left on the B944 shortly bevore kintore)
Infrastructure:childrens playground
Sanitary: filthy (compared to other sites) --> comment is from 1999, the management has changed in the meantime
Comments:only a small area for tends, most of the visitors are germans
A new owner take over on 17th march 2000
5 30ft 6 berth caravans fully equipped for hire. Prices £110.00 to £262.00 a week.
Sightseeing-Tip:
  • Old Aberdeen: The medieval old town of Aberdeen, narrow lanes of cobbled stone, very picturesque and atmospheric
  • A 'hot' tip for rainy weather: The 'Winter Gardens' in Duthie Park. Allegedly europe's largest indoor garden, especially the cactus house is worth to pay a visit. Polmuir Road (Photo)

Setting: Site is in the Hazelhead Park, 3 miles from the town centre. Busses Nr. 14 and 15.
(Follow the Union Street westward, turn right at the junction Holburn St. Albyn Pl./Alford Pl., follow the Queen's Road, turn left at the fourth (?) roundabout (Hazlehead Avenue)

Comments: very clean ans spacious site, surrounded by trees, lawn for recreation.

Setting:Site is lokated on the banks of Loch Aboyne, wonderful setting. (½ mile east of Aboyne on the A93 (Aberdeen-Braemar))
Ground:hard
Infrastructure:50 tents, launderette , shop, public phone, childrens playground. Pets welcome.
Sanitary:clean, closed from 10.30 to 11.30 for cleaning
Comments:Beautyful setting, but lots of midgets. Some pitches are far away from the toilets
Sightseeing-Tip:
  • Scolty Hill: A walk to Scolty Hill in nearby Banchory (bus). Easy tour, spectacular views, observation tower.


Alford

Setting: situated on the A944 (turn right at the Spar-Shop in Alford) Site in the castle gardens, tents within a walled area, rather loud.
Ground:level and soft grass
Infrastructure:shop and adventure playground
Sanitary:Usual facilitys, clean. Showers are free.
Comment:Quiet shelterd side, professional management. The reception and the shop are located in a castle-like building with a stuccoed ceiling. Rather expensive

(Crook of) Alves

Setting: Alves is a little bit north of the A96 between Forres and Elgin. The site is an old farm surrounded by trees and fields.
Ground: grassy, a little bit damp.
Infrastructure: Shop and reception are closed after 5 p.m. To register go left through the door and ring.
Sanitary:2 showers, rather old. The hair drier only accepts the older 10p-coins.

Comments:proper campingsite, but mainly caravans and mobile homes
Sightseeing-Tip:
  • Loch Muick:Impressive lake and glen in the Nature Reserve near Ballater, masses of red deer in summer.


Carnoustie

Setting: Carnoustie is located a few miles east of Dundee. Follow the A92 from Dundee to Arbroath, turn of right into in direction to the coast in Muirdrun. The site is signposted from Muirdrun. The site is surrounded by an old city wall and is part of an public park.
Ground:level, grassy, not wet, many large and old trees
Infrastructure:common room with TV, washing machine, pets welcome
Sanitary: losts of older, but clean showers and toilets
Comments: very beautyful site, worth visiting

Setting:The site is located at a beach (but you cannot swim there due to big stone boulders). From the city of Dundee follow signs for Arbroath on the A92. After 3 miles you will see the signs for Monifieth, turn right into the village. Riverview is 1 mile and well sign posted just after Tesco supermarket in the centre of the village.
Ground: soft grass. even. not muddy in rain. May be windy as it is next to the sea.
Infrastructure: laundry, dryers, indoor play area, outdoor playground, telephone. Dogs are welcomed.
Sanitary: clean, free, locked toilets and showers. Suitable für wheelchairs.
Comment: A nice and clean area suited for families with children. Area is locked at night. Close to a big grocery store and also close to several take-away food restaurants.
Sightseeing-Tip:The beach of Brought Ferry is a couple of miles towards Dundee. There is also a tiny castle with a little child friendly museum that is free.

Comments:large and tidy campingsite, a large meadow for recreation, sufficient water supplies,
Sightseeing-Tip:only a ten minute walk to the town centre of Huntly; campsite is an ideal starting point for the castle trail; Huntly Castle; there are a lot of distilleries are in this area (Glenfiddish - free guided tour incl. 'a wee little drum')

Setting: Kirkcaldy is located on the A921 13 miles east of the Forth Bridges in Edinburgh. The campsite is on the 981 Boreland in direction of Dunmikier, on the outskirts of Kirkcaldy
Ground:grassy, under large, old and shady trees.
Infrastructure: Shop and reception are opened until 5p.m. After 5 p.m. you can register in the hous left of the entrance. Sinks (not roofed)
Sanitary: 3 showers, free. 20p for the hair drier in the ladys room, no hair dryer in the mens room.
Comments: The site is acceptable, the first site we have ever seen with large amounts of flowers in the toilets

Setting:at the north sea shore aside the main road, follow the A92 north of Montrose
Ground:soft lawn, even
Infrastructure:washing machine, drier, shop, common room (redecorated in 1999) billiard and TV
Sanitary:*Older, but in good shape. The sole shower room is for males and females, the showers are divided by curtains. The showers are free.
* there is only a curtain between the showers, but you can lock the room instead. So couples can take a shower.
Comment:Quiet, not overcrowed. You can hear the breakers of the nearby sea while ducks, cats and chickens are walking between the tents - beautiful!
Do not visit the ugly site at the A92

Peterculter / Maryculter

Setting:a few miles west of Aberdeen, follow the A93, turn of in Milltimber (between Cults/Bieldside and Peterculter)
Ground:lawn, ground is very hard
Infrastructure:washing machine, drier, games room, table tennis, TV-room, pub within 3 minutes walking distance
Sanitary:on the average, clean, showers are free, £3 pledge for the toilet key
Comments:noisy street nearby, bus connection to Aberdeen, but you have to walk for 20 minutes to the bus stop
