Comments: Very spacious area with over 300 trailers. But you see not much of the trailers from the tents area because the site is located around some small hills, you have a wonderfull view over teh Wigtown Bay instead. You can climb down to a small bay from the site. This site is also suited in the low season for people who love beautiful lonesome places.

Glenbrittle (Skye)

Site: Glen Brittle Camping Site (Skye)
Tel: (01470) 521206
Fee:£4 (per person/night)
(May 2002)
Setting: Glenbrittle is a small village at the foot of the Cuillins. The campsite is located at the shore.
Ground: lawn
Infrastructure:shop with a wide range of goods
Sanitary: older , only two showers, showers are free, long walking distance from some pitches to the sanitary.
Comments:tends only, no caravans or mobile homes. Optimal starting point for tours in the Cuillin mountains (Maps are sold in the shop). The site is secluded, the road ends there (Birgit und Jörg, August/September 1999)

In July 99, the site was in a awful condition. The beach was covered with rubbish. The sanitary facilities are a desaster - most of the facilities are rusty or covered with moulder.
The site is, compared to others, rather large. But parts of it are under water when the flood is coming in, so take care where you put up your tent - you might get wet. The reason for the many guests on this site is the solitude road leading to this site. No backpacker is motivated to walk another 21 miles to go back... (Kathrin, July 99)

The showers and toilets have been cleaned and the feel of the toilet block is better - it is still old though. The beach was very nice this last weekend.
Camper vans are now allowed on site - but it is still mostly tents that pitch up. I do not think that caravans can be driven to the campsite - the access road is very narrow and difficult to drive in a car - let alone a car towing something. (Karl, Mai 2002)

Comment:to expensive in view of the lousy site-condition and the poor Sanitary, well attended, mainly tends. Just pitch up your tend, someone will come to get the money the next morning. Site becomes noisy for half an hour after the closing hour of a nearby pub , drunken campers are showing no consideration for the sleeping guests - not only the germans...
We found that the traffic on the main road behind the camp site died down at night and I would not say it was disturbing. They may have a new warden now - bit the toilets were not dirty, even if a bit old. We had no drunken campers!! - in fact I think you should mention that the pub across the road is very good, particularly for an isolated pub, with several real ales on tap. (John & Dorothy)
